Promoting Bernie Sanders vote

By Pablo Bello

Grand Rapids, Mich. (tiempolatin.com) .- Last Saturday around 50 people gathered to promote the vote in favor of Bernie Sanders, the hopeful candidate for the Democratic party.

One of the attendees said that he had decided to vote and promote the vote for Sanders because his grandmother had suffered the lack of appropriate health insurance, he saw his family member split the pills in two because he had no money to buy the doses she needed and Social Security was not enough to cover her medication.

Sanders promises health insurance for the millions of people who don’t have access to doctors and their services, and free college education.

Zoe Swinton the organizer for Sanders, said there are two ways to win the Sanders nomination, the first is to win 50 percent of the delegates in the first round, the second is to convince the super delegates to vote for him in the second round.

There is also an app berniesanders.com that can be activated on smartphones and it’s to invite friends and acquaintances to participate by knocking on doors to invite people to vote for Sanders and other activities.

Also on Wednesday an office will be opened at 1144 Wealthy Street to coordinate the efforts of the Sanders campaign.

Sanders has placed himself as a pointer in the political race between the hopeful Democratic candidates after winning New Hampshire with 26 per cent of the vote and the popular vote in Iowa.

On February 22, the primary elections will be held in Nevada where Sanders and his supporters hope to win again and to continue with South Carolina on February 29.

Latinos have given to Sanders more than $8 million in donations and contributed more than $23 million in total to Democratic candidates, according to Plus Three.

The Democratic debate will take place on Wednesday and the Bernie supporters invite the community to watch the debate in their new offices located at 1144 Wealthy.

The primary elections in Michigan are March 10 and citizens can register to vote on February 24 or March 10, they can also do so with absentee ballots.

Swinton said on February 18 on Facebook: “Please comment below if you’re willing to be a Staging Location Director during the next few weekends! SLDs are in charge of a staging location: signing people in, making recruitment and confirmation calls, and re-shifting volunteers after they return from their canvassing shifts.

She also said: “is anyone available to host a phonebank (at a Biggby) this Thursday at 5:00 p.m.?
